iPhone Ringtone: Metal Gear Solid Codec
Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008 » iPhone
About a week ago, I was sitting in my Physics 6A lecture when I heard an instantly familiar sound coming from someone’s cell phone. Within a millisecond of the sound wave being interpreted by my brain, I was instantly recalling memories of the good ol’ days of playing one of my favourite video game series: Metal Gear Solid. When I came home that evening, I went to work on creating my own version of the Codec ringtone for my iPhone. And now I’m sharing it with you. Enjoy!

@jackcarver Since it’s an iPhone ringtone, you need to have iTunes to play it.

Excellent, most excellent, thanks alot brad!

Thanks for the ringtone… love it.
Hey Brad thanks for the file — But how can I get this to set as my text message ring? Using a ’stock’ iPhone 3g. Thanks again!
@ChiNoanoah As far as I know, custom text message chimes are not supported yet, only custom ringtones.
Fucking awesome. I’ve been searching everywhere for this for my iPhone. Thanks a lot.
OMG this is fucking awesome it totally worked. thanks a lot.
excellent! now if we could just get the enemy “alert” sound!
How about a tone for a calendar event or SMS notification using the ‘Alert’ (sound made when an enemy detects you) tone also from MG:S?
As cool as I think it would be to get an alert sound for alarms or text messages, as far as I know Apple has yet to support those types of custom sounds. Unfortunately, I just don’t have the time to mess around with jailbreaking my iPhone and trying it that way.
